Research Engineer, Applied AI Engineering

OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer for the Applied Group to transform groundbreaking AI research into real-world applications. You will design and deploy advanced machine learning models, collaborate with researchers and engineers, and optimize pipelines for production.

• Design and deploy advanced machine learning models solving real-world problems
• Collaborate with researchers, software engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered solutions
• Implement scalable data pipelines and optimize models for performance and accuracy
• Stay current with ML/AI developments, conduct code reviews, and share knowledge
• Monitor and maintain deployed models to ensure continuous value delivery

• Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field
• Demonstrated experience in deep learning and transformers models
• Proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

• Experience with search relevance, ads ranking, or LLMs
• Familiarity with training and fine-tuning methods like distillation, supervised fine-tuning, and policy optimization
