OpenAI is seeking an Agent Standards Specialist to lead the development of technical standards for AI agents, focusing on identity, delegated authority, and auditability. This role bridges engineering, security, and policy teams to create credible specifications and protocol profiles that ensure safe and interoperable agent operations. The ideal candidate will represent OpenAI in external technical forums like IETF and W3C while embedding with internal product and security teams.
Responsibilities
- Own workstream plans for agent identity, discovery, and delegated-authorization standards.
- Develop normative contributions and technical positions for external standards bodies (IETF, W3C, NIST).
- Translate internal architecture and controls into technically credible specifications and assurance evidence.
- Lead review and approval paths across Product, Security, Engineering, Legal, and GRC.
- Represent OpenAI in priority venues and coalitions to build trust with peer companies and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Strong experience in technical standards, internet protocols, identity/access, or security architecture.
- Proven track record of authoring or shaping normative specifications in technical standards or open-source governance.
