Research Engineer, AI/ML Systems

Lightning AI is hiring a Research Engineer to work on post-training models and the systems that support them. You will develop and improve tooling for training, evaluating, and deploying AI models, contribute to PyTorch Lightning open source, and collaborate across research, product, infrastructure, and customers. This role spans ML engineering, software engineering, and AI systems.

• Develop and post-train models, improving workflows for running, evaluating, debugging, and scaling training workloads.
• Build software, tooling, and platform capabilities that help researchers and customers develop, train, and deploy AI systems.
• Contribute to Lightning's open-source projects and engage with the developer community.
• Work across deep learning systems, developer tooling, backend services, and platform infrastructure.
• Collaborate with customers to understand real-world AI workloads and turn learnings into product improvements.
• Prototype new ideas and move successful experiments into production-quality software.

• Experience building, training, evaluating, or experimenting with deep learning models.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, debugging skills, and ability to investigate unfamiliar technical challenges.
