Research Engineer, Asta

AI2's Asta Project is seeking a Research Engineer to develop AI research assistants for scientific discovery. The role involves building infrastructure for LLMs and agentic research, creating AI tools for science, and bridging research to product. Ideal candidates have experience with Python, PyTorch, agentic frameworks, and cloud computing.

• Build infrastructure for next-generation LLM and agentic research
• Create AI tools to facilitate scientific discovery in domains like biology, cancer research, neuroscience, etc.
• Design, build, and train machine learning or language models for agentic workflows
• Bridge cutting-edge research to widely adopted products
• Bring software engineering best practices to research environment
• Support and collaborate with open-source community
• Release contributions as open source software, model releases, and datasets

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/Data Science/Applied Mathematics/Statistics/ML/NLP or related field
• 2+ years experience building agentic infrastructure
• 2+ years experience building infrastructure for data preprocessing and ML model training, evaluation, deployment
• Knowledge of modern deep learning, NLP, and reinforcement learning
• Strong software engineering and debugging skills
