Thinking Machines Lab is seeking an AI Research Engineer with expertise in computer vision and multimodal learning to advance frontier model development. You will design architectures that fuse visual and textual data, curate large-scale datasets, and build evaluation benchmarks to improve real-world comprehension. This role blends fundamental research with hands-on engineering, requiring strong experimental rigor and proficiency in distributed training environments.
Responsibilities
- Own research projects on training and performance analysis of multimodal AI models.
- Curate and build large-scale datasets and evaluation benchmarks to advance vision capabilities.
- Collaborate with data infrastructure, pretraining researchers, and product teams to develop frontier multimodal models.
- Publish and present research findings, sharing code and datasets to accelerate community progress.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in CS, ML, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.
- Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, large-scale training, and distributed compute.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX).
- Ability to debug distributed training and write scalable, high-performance code.
