Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher to join the AI Foundations team in Cambridge, MA. This role focuses on building and customizing large language models (LLMs) using techniques like finetuning and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). You will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, trustworthy AI systems that enhance customer experiences.

• Build AI foundation models through all phases of development, from design to implementation.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Hugging Face, and other tools to analyze numeric and textual data.
• Conduct high-impact applied research to integrate state-of-the-art AI developments into production products.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to define and solve complex business problems.

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, OR MS plus 2 years of applied research experience.
• Hands-on experience developing AI foundation models and solutions using open-source tools and cloud platforms.
• Deep understanding of AI methodologies, including training optimization, self-supervised learning, and robustness.
• Experience building large deep learning models (language, images, events, or graphs).
