Waymo is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the Driver Understanding and Evaluation (DUE) team. You will develop deep learning and GenAI models to analyze autonomous vehicle behavior, build scalable ML systems, and drive technical strategy for evaluation. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance the Waymo Driver's performance and safety.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of deep learning and ML models for triaging and automation.
- Design and build GenAI LLM/VLM solutions for behavior analysis and anomaly detection.
- Develop reinforcement learning from human preference-based data collection and evaluation systems.
- Enhance user feedback analysis through multi-label classification, sentiment assessment, and summarization.
- Optimize ML models for assessing vehicle fleet performance.
- Drive technical direction and provide guidance to the team.
- Collaborate with PMs, TPMs, and other teams to define product requirements and align technical agenda.
Requirements
- B.S. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or similar technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning projects.
