Staff Software Engineer, AI Foundations (AI Agent Optimization)

Temporal is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead agent optimization on its AI Foundations team. You will design tools and mechanisms that help Temporal users build AI agents optimized for token spend, response time, and quality, including model routing, multi-agent architecture, cache policy, and context management. This is a fully remote role.

• Lead agent optimization efforts and strategy
• Design tools and mechanisms for optimizing AI agent performance
• Implement model routing, multi-agent architecture, cache policy, and context management techniques
• Collaborate with users and internal teams to accelerate Temporal adoption

• 8+ years of professional work experience
• Proven experience optimizing AI systems using machine learning and systems techniques
• Experience and passion for harnessing generative AI, especially for agents and coding
• Fluency in multiple programming languages and affinity for learning new ones
• Deep experience with concurrent programming (mutexes, atomics, etc.)
• Experience designing APIs and writing documentation for public libraries
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent production software experience
