Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist - Secure AI Lab - 2024055

The Secure AI Lab at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist to conduct research on vulnerabilities of AI/ML algorithms and develop defenses. The role involves leading novel research, transitioning capabilities to government sponsors, and mentoring junior team members. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA.

• Conduct and lead novel research in applied machine learning and AI security
• Lead interdisciplinary teams to turn research into prototype capabilities
• Plan and execute research strategy
• Collaborate with researchers, government customers, and stakeholders
• Mentor junior team members

• Bachelor's degree in CS, stats, ML, EE or related with 10+ years experience; OR MS with 8+ years; OR PhD with 5+ years
• Comprehensive knowledge of machine learning
• Track record of conducting research and applying scientific methods
• Experience leading research projects
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to work onsite 5 days/week
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

• Experience in adversarial machine learning
