Staff Machine Learning Engineer

EvenUp is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the technical direction for Piai, its AI-powered claims-intelligence platform. This role involves solving complex modeling problems in legal and medical data, establishing evaluation standards, and mentoring the ML team. You'll partner with Product, Research, and Engineering leaders to ship production ML systems that improve outcomes for personal injury cases.

• Set technical strategy for the ML roadmap and translate ambiguous business goals into production-ready systems.
• Tackle complex reasoning, long-context, and multi-document understanding problems.
• Apply advanced ML techniques such as fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and retrieval.
• Establish rigorous evaluation standards to reduce hallucinations and improve factual consistency.
• Drive data excellence through hands-on analysis of training and evaluation data.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the ML team.
• Bridge research and production to integrate new techniques into shippable systems.

• 7+ years of hands-on ML engineering experience with models in production.
• Deep expertise in ML, NLP, and LLMs, with a track record of solving hard modeling problems.
• High proficiency in Python and modern ML/NLP frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to set technical strategy in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
