Modal is seeking a Forward Deployed ML Engineer to work directly with leading AI companies and foundation model labs in Stockholm. This role bridges deep technical engineering with customer success, focusing on optimizing production AI workloads such as LLM serving and training. You will architect solutions for high-performance inference and fine-tuning while contributing to open-source projects like SGLang.
Responsibilities
- Partner with customers to architect and optimize production AI workloads on Modal
- Assist clients in achieving state-of-the-art performance for LLM serving, SFT, and RLHF
- Contribute to open-source projects and publish technical content demonstrating Modal's capabilities
- Collaborate with product and sales teams to drive platform adoption
- Build relationships with technical leaders at frontier AI companies
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional ML engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with inference optimization, model training, or GPU programming
- Familiarity with serving toolchains (e.g., vLLM, SGLang) or training frameworks (e.g., TRL)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs
