Mistral AI is hiring a Research Engineer to advance model capabilities in cybersecurity, focusing on vulnerability discovery, remediation, and security analysis. You will design and build reinforcement learning environments that simulate realistic security scenarios and generate synthetic training data at scale. This role bridges research and engineering, directly feeding into production training runs for frontier models. Security specialists and ML engineers are both encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement RL environments simulating cybersecurity scenarios.
- Build pipelines and infrastructure to generate synthetic cybersecurity training instances at scale.
- Conduct experiments and evaluations of model capabilities on these environments.
- Own infrastructure including containers, sandboxes, VMs, cloud deployments, and Kubernetes orchestration, managed as code.
- Partner with researchers and security specialists to distill domain expertise into reproducible environments and datasets.
- Write clear, efficient Python code and enforce strong software-design practices (testing, code review, CI/CD).
Requirements
- Hands-on expertise in offensive and/or defensive cybersecurity: vulnerability analysis, web/network/cloud security, secure coding, and SOC.
