Mistral AI is seeking a Research Engineer to bridge the gap between cutting-edge ML research and production-scale systems. You will build and optimize large-scale learning infrastructure for open-weight models, working closely with research scientists on pre-training, alignment, and multimodal projects. The role involves developing robust training frameworks, data pipelines, and distributed training tools across thousands of GPUs.
Responsibilities
- Build and optimize large-scale ML pipelines and training frameworks
- Interface research ideas with production codebases
- Conduct experiments on deep-learning techniques including sparsified 70B+ runs
- Design and benchmark ML algorithms in Python
- Deliver prototypes for enterprise APIs and internal tools like Le Chat
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience with large-scale ML codebases
- Proficiency in PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow
- Experience with distributed training systems (DeepSpeed, FSDP, SLURM, K8s)
- Strong software engineering instincts (testing, CI/CD, code review)
