AI Research Engineer (Robot Learning)

mimic is an early-stage deep tech robotics and AI startup seeking an AI Research Engineer to drive frontier AI model development for dexterous robotic manipulation. The role involves building large-scale multi-task foundation models, managing the data flywheel, and deploying models on real-world robots. As an early employee, you'll co-lead AI engineering with the founders.

• Drive research and implementation for large scale, multi-task foundation AI models for robotics
• Oversee model specialization with fine-tuning and post-training techniques
• Manage the data flywheel process from specification to real-world evaluation
• Write clean, maintainable Python code using deep learning frameworks
• Collaborate with Robotics and Hardware teams for stable deployment

• PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Robotics, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
• 3+ years of experience training generative models
• 4+ years of Python development
• Strong empirical research skills
• Project management and supervision experience
• Fluent English

• Published research in leading conferences (NeurIPS, CoRL, ICML, ICLR)
• Experience with large scale foundation models and distributed multi-GPU setups
• Robotics and ROS2 experience
• RL fine-tuning of generative models
• Open source software development
