About the Role
mimic is an early-stage deep tech robotics and AI startup seeking an AI Research Engineer to drive frontier AI model development for dexterous robotic manipulation. The role involves building large-scale multi-task foundation models, managing the data flywheel, and deploying models on real-world robots. As an early employee, you'll co-lead AI engineering with the founders.
Responsibilities
- Drive research and implementation for large scale, multi-task foundation AI models for robotics
- Oversee model specialization with fine-tuning and post-training techniques
- Manage the data flywheel process from specification to real-world evaluation
- Write clean, maintainable Python code using deep learning frameworks
- Collaborate with Robotics and Hardware teams for stable deployment
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Robotics, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
- 3+ years of experience training generative models
- 4+ years of Python development
- Strong empirical research skills
- Project management and supervision experience
- Fluent English
Nice to Have
- Published research in leading conferences (NeurIPS, CoRL, ICML, ICLR)
- Experience with large scale foundation models and distributed multi-GPU setups
