Helsing is a defence AI company seeking an AI Research Engineer to build foundational intelligence for the physical world. You will research, design, and train large-scale multimodal models, focusing on Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and LLMs. The role covers the entire model lifecycle from data curation to evaluation, requiring strong software engineering and deep learning expertise.
Responsibilities
- Research, design, and train large-scale Foundational Models (LLMs, VLMs, multimodal).
- Train and fine-tune Vision-Language Models on custom datasets.
- Manage the entire model lifecycle: data curation, training, and evaluation.
- Write custom layers, loss functions, and distributed training loops.
- Contribute to internal research culture and stay current with ArXiv papers.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or Mathematics with a focus on Deep Learning.
- Theoretical understanding and practical experience training Foundational Models (LLMs, VLMs, or large-scale multimodal models) from scratch or via fine-tuning.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python and fluency with modern DL frameworks (PyTorch/JAX).
- Comfortable writing custom layers, loss functions, and distributed training loops.
