Zalando is seeking an Applied Scientist to join its Berlin-based Applied Science team within Customer Care Technology. You will design, build, and scale AI systems using deep learning, LLMs, and agentic workflows to optimize customer self-service for millions of monthly queries. The role involves end-to-end ownership of AI models in production, from research planning to deployment and monitoring, in close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Translate business challenges into structured research plans and execute from discovery to production deployment.
- Design, evaluate, and scale deep learning and LLM applications, including predictive models and agentic workflows.
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI models in production: design, optimization, deployment, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, and software engineers to integrate AI solutions into customer service.
- Define and maintain best practices for research methodologies and reproducible experiments.
Requirements
- Track record of research projects and productionization of customer-facing AI products.
- Strong expertise in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and NLP, with experience building LLM applications.
