About the Role
Capital One's AI Foundations team is seeking an Applied Researcher to build and scale AI foundation models, focusing on LLM core and agentic AI. You will partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered customer experiences. The role spans the full research lifecycle—from model design and training to evaluation, validation, and production implementation—using PyTorch, AWS, and modern ML infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
- Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Hugging Face, Lightning, and VectorDBs to uncover insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
- Build AI foundation models through all phases: design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
- Engage in high-impact applied research to translate the latest AI developments into next-generation customer experiences.
- Translate complex research into tangible business goals and communicate with stakeholders.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or holding a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, or an MS with 2+ years of applied research experience.
- Deep understanding of AI methodologies and experience building large deep learning models (language, images, events, or graphs).
