Apple is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to define the technical strategy for foundation model systems, with an initial focus on building and optimizing inference engines for Apple Silicon. This senior individual-contributor role involves leading engineering excellence across training, evaluation, and data systems while partnering closely with research teams. Responsibilities
- Define technical vision and strategy for foundation model inference engines and supporting systems
- Lead execution across multiple teams to deliver high-throughput, low-latency inference solutions
- Partner with modeling and research teams to productionize new capabilities into the development loop
- Drive engineering excellence and mentor junior and senior engineers
- Shape adjacent areas including training infrastructure, data systems, and model evaluation
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 15+ years of experience building large-scale ML or distributed systems
- Deep hands-on expertise in foundation model inference engines at scale
- Proficiency with ML frameworks such as JAX and PyTorch
