American Express's Enterprise Technology Services organization is hiring a Staff AI Engineer to lead enterprise-scale AI architecture and implementation across AI infrastructure and agentic AI systems. In this role, you will set technical direction for scalable, reliable, secure, and responsible AI platforms, architect end-to-end AI/ML platforms on GPU-based infrastructure, and mentor senior technical talent. The position is based in New York City and supports the company's global technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-scale AI architecture and implementation across AI infrastructure and agentic AI systems
- Set technical direction for scalable, reliable, secure, and responsible AI platforms
- Architect end-to-end AI/ML platforms spanning data pipelines, training, deployment, serving, monitoring, and inference optimization
- Design and operate GPU-based AI infrastructure, including workload scheduling, capacity management, and performance tuning
- Build and operate cloud-native, Kubernetes-based platforms for training, batch workloads, and inference
- Lead complex cross-functional technical initiatives and influence architecture direction across teams
- Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, including Staff-level engineers
- Ensure AI governance, model risk management, explainability, bias detection, and regulatory compliance
