Affirm is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to shape the future of ML in financial services. You will define multi-year technical strategy, lead design of advanced ML systems, and mentor senior engineers. This role partners with cross-functional leaders to ensure responsible, scalable AI.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive multi-year, multi-team technical strategy for machine learning.
- Lead design, implementation, and scaling of advanced ML systems.
- Partner with ML Platform, product, engineering, and risk leadership.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor senior engineers.
- Drive clarity and alignment on ambiguous technical decisions.
- Champion operational and system excellence across ML systems.
Requirements
- 10+ years experience in large-scale, real-time machine learning systems.
- Experience leading end-to-end ML system design.
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, XGBoost).
- Experience with ML tooling (Kubeflow, MLflow).
- Strong understanding of representation learning, embedding-based modeling, and neural network sequence modeling.
- Deep hands-on experience with large-scale distributed ML infrastructure.
