Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer, (Machine Learning)

Affirm is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join their innovative ML team. The role involves shaping the future of machine learning by designing and scaling advanced ML systems, driving technical strategy, and mentoring senior engineers. The position focuses on revolutionizing financial services with transparent and inclusive credit products using data and ML.

• Define and drive multi-year technical strategy for machine learning across Affirm.
• Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of advanced ML systems.
• Partner with ML Platform, product, engineering, and risk leadership to shape long-term modeling capabilities.
• Mentor senior engineers and elevate design and code quality across the ML organization.
• Champion operational and system excellence, ensuring reliability and evolution of critical ML systems.

• 10+ years experience in large-scale, real-time machine learning systems.
• Proficient in Python, PyTorch, and XGBoost.
• Experience with distributed frameworks like Spark and Ray.
• Experience with ML tooling such as Kubeflow and MLflow.
• Deep expertise in neural network sequence modeling, including Transformers and multi-task learning.
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
