Tesla is seeking a Computer Vision Engineering Intern to join the Cell Engineering team in Palo Alto. The role focuses on developing computer vision pipelines and deep learning models for automated battery cell image analysis, defect detection, and segmentation. Interns will work with modern AI tools and MLOps practices to support Tesla's battery technology development.

• Develop backend, frontend, datasets, and tools to automate complex image analysis
• Design, train, and deploy computer vision and deep learning models for defect detection, classification, and segmentation
• Build and maintain scalable ML pipelines and containerized model deployments
• Collaborate with engineers on end-to-end analyses from data gathering to modeling

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Science
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and modern CV architectures (CNNs, ViTs)
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Git
• Understanding of MLOps lifecycle including data curation, training, and deployment

• Experience with Kubernetes, Splunk, Redis, or Docker
• Familiarity with classic image feature extraction techniques
• Proficiency with AI coding assistants and LLM/vision-language models
• Strong analytical and communication skills
