Helical is seeking a Senior AI Research Engineer to own the post-training lifecycle for biological foundation models. You will design pipelines to align general-purpose models with therapeutic contexts and build validation frameworks connecting model outputs to biological ground truth. This role requires deep expertise in alignment techniques like LoRA, DPO, and RLHF within a fast-paced biotech startup environment.

• Design and implement post-training pipelines to align biological foundation models to specific therapeutic contexts.
• Build validation frameworks using embeddings and perturbation data to connect model improvements to biological reality.
• Own experiments end-to-end, from hypothesis generation to distributed GPU training runs and client delivery.
• Collaborate with ML infrastructure and biology teams to ensure scientific validity and production readiness.

• MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with post-training techniques: fine-tuning, LoRA, DPO, RLHF.
• Strong proficiency in Python and PyTorch, including writing training loops and debugging distributed runs.
• Familiarity with transformer architectures and rigorous experimental design.
