About the Role
DigitalOcean is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML to join their Applied Research team. You will own the technical direction for feedback-driven learning in agentic systems, including reward modeling, preference optimization, and reinforcement learning. This senior individual contributor role involves shipping research into production and running large-scale experiments.
Responsibilities
- Own the feedback learning roadmap, defining and executing applied research for feedback-driven agentic AI
- Build production learning systems that improve agent reasoning, planning, and action execution over time
- Provide technical leadership across modeling, experimentation, and production readiness
Requirements
- 8+ years building production AI/ML systems (LLMs, GenAI, agentic systems, recommendation, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with reinforcement learning, reward modeling, fine-tuning, or preference optimization
- Strong understanding of agentic AI: reasoning, planning, tool use, and self-correction
- Strong software engineering in Python and at least one production systems language
Nice to Have
- Master's or PhD in CS, ML, AI, or related field
- Experience with production ML infrastructure (model serving, data pipelines, etc.)
