Checkr is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to build and ship production-grade AI systems that power background check verification. You will design, develop, and deploy ML models and LLM-based services, focusing on document processing, entity resolution, and in-product intelligence. This role emphasizes engineering craft, requiring you to write clean, testable code and manage the full lifecycle of ML services from API design to monitoring.

• Build and deploy end-to-end ML/AI services including model code, API layers, and monitoring.
• Design production systems using LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) for prompt engineering, structured outputs, and cost management.
• Ship production software with solid OOP, error handling, and CI/CD integration.
• Partner with Product Engineering to translate business problems into ML solutions and define API contracts.
• Build evaluation frameworks and iterate on model performance based on data-driven decisions.
• Contribute to Checkr's agentic platform by automating pipelines and building reusable skills.

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years building production ML systems.
• Strong fluency in Python with a focus on clean, testable, and well-structured code.
