Sr NLU Research Engineer

Cerence AI seeks a Senior NLU Research Engineer to develop next-generation natural language understanding and AI systems for automotive and mobility markets. The role involves working with LLMs, data annotation, and statistical model development for Japanese products. Join a global team driving in-car AI innovation.

• Deep analysis of customer requirements for NLU features and define interfaces with front-end (ASR) and back-end (content provider, Agents, LLM). Module level solution design and implementation. Acquire and accumulate data to train NLU models. Innovate new AI tools or use existing technologies to develop NLU solutions. Collaborate with development and QA teams on deliverables and schedules.

• Master's degree or above in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related AI field. Experience with Natural Language Understanding (NLU) technology. Working knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Agents. Strong programming and scripting proficiency, particularly in Python. Native or close-to-native Japanese speaker with fluent English for global communication.

• Familiarity with Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR). Proficiency in additional human languages.
