ML/AI Research Engineer

BMO is seeking an ML/AI Research Engineer to lead the design and scaling of transformer-based foundation models. The role involves running experiments, building reusable pipelines, and collaborating cross-functionally to advance the team's research agenda.

• Lead design, training, and scaling of transformer-based foundation models. Run rigorous experiments against strong baselines to improve model quality. Build reusable tools and pipelines that accelerate research iteration. Advance the team's research agenda by tracking state-of-the-art research. Collaborate cross-functionally to evaluate model outputs in downstream applications.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field. 5+ years of applied deep learning experience with end-to-end ownership of complex modelling initiatives. Strong proficiency in Python and PyTorch. Writes clean, modular, well-tested code following software engineering best practices. Strong experimental rigor. Effective communication skills.

• Publications at top-tier venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, TPAMI). Experience with distributed processing frameworks (e.g., PySpark).
