Whitecircle is seeking an ML Research Engineer to train, post-train, and evaluate large language models for their AI safety platform. You will build scalable data pipelines, implement alignment techniques like SFT/RLHF/DPO, and develop robust evaluation frameworks for policy enforcement. This role combines hands-on model training with applied NLP and distributed systems engineering to ensure reliable, safe AI outputs.
Responsibilities
- Build and optimize large-scale data pipelines for unstructured text processing
- Implement SFT, RLHF, and DPO-style alignment methods for LLM training
- Develop scalable embedding, indexing, and retrieval systems
- Design and execute offline/online evaluation metrics for model safety and performance
- Partner with engineering teams to integrate models into production workflows
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with an engineering-focused mindset
- Solid applied NLP/ML experience including embeddings, clustering, and semantic search
- Experience with distributed processing and large-scale storage-querying
- Familiarity with evaluation methodologies, human-in-the-loop labeling, and drift monitoring
- Prior work with safety, moderation, or policy/rule-based datasets
