Western Governors University seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to build and deploy state-of-the-art NLP/LLM models at scale in a cloud environment, focused on improving student learning experiences. The role involves strategic leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating cross-functionally to drive AI innovation in education.
Responsibilities
- Define NLP initiatives, roadmaps, and success metrics in collaboration with the MLE manager. Research and prototype state-of-the-art NLP/LLM techniques and deploy production-grade models. Partner with Data Engineering and MLOps to build robust pipelines and ensure scalable deployment. Translate business requirements into NLP capabilities and apply insights to unstructured data sources.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of software development in a cloud environment. 3+ years building large-scale ML/DL models from POC to production. Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and ML tooling (Databricks, MLFlow, Streamlit). Proficiency in ETL, feature engineering, and data visualization. Strong programming skills in Python, Java/Scala, or Go. Excellent analytical and communication skills.
