Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Tech Lead for its Perception team to architect next-generation multi-modal perception architectures for autonomous vehicles. This role involves setting the technical roadmap, leading cross-functional initiatives, and mentoring ML engineers while leveraging large-scale real-world driving data. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in computer vision, deep learning frameworks, and production-grade model deployment.
Responsibilities
- Set long-term technical roadmap for multi-modal perception architectures
- Architect unified, scalable representations combining diverse sensor modalities
- Lead cross-functional initiatives across Perception and Planner teams
- Mentor ML engineers and foster a culture of rapid prototyping and benchmarking
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or equivalent
- 8+ years of industry experience in ML, AI, or Computer Vision
- Proven track record of shipping large-scale, production-grade ML models
- Expert proficiency in Python, C++, and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow)
- Demonstrated experience leading large technical initiatives as a Tech Lead
