About the Role

Peraton is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and build production-grade AI systems for Defense & Health programs. The role focuses on LLM integration, agent-based systems, and AI-native software engineering within DevSecOps pipelines. Responsibilities include architecting AI-enabled workflows, building LLM-powered applications, and ensuring compliance with federal security policies. The position is based in Reston, VA with occasional telework.

Responsibilities

Architect and implement AI-enabled DevSecOps pipelines
Design and build LLM-powered applications and agentic systems
Design and operationalize multi-step agentic workflows with human-in-the-loop controls
Leverage GenAI.mil models and commercial LLMs into secure environments
Build and integrate AI microservices and APIs into cloud-native platforms
Establish prompt frameworks, chaining strategies, and reusable AI patterns
Integrate AI into IT operations for closed-loop automation
Define and track performance metrics tied to AI adoption
Lead technical adoption and mentor engineers
Implement RAG architectures using mission data

Requirements

US Citizenship and active Secret clearance
5 years with BS/BA, 5–10+ years in software engineering, DevSecOps, or platform engineering
2+ years hands-on experience building AI/LLM-based applications or workflows
