Netcraft is seeking a Software Engineer (Machine Learning) to join the Novel Classification team in Manchester. You will apply ML and AI techniques to detect cybercrime, phishing, and fraud by building classifiers, LLM models, and computer vision systems. The role involves full lifecycle ownership from training and evaluation to deploying models on Kubernetes infrastructure.

• Build, evaluate, and tune classifiers for blocking fraudulent content and scams.
• Deploy and operate model serving infrastructure on Kubernetes, including LLM inference with vLLM.
• Optimize models for high-volume, low-cost serving in production environments.
• Run experiments against live data to measure precision, recall, and false positive rates.
• Integrate models into production classification platforms and build monitoring pipelines.

• Strong web fundamentals including HTTP, DNS, and understanding of website architecture.
• Working understanding of ML fundamentals: training, evaluation, overfitting, and precision/recall trade-offs.
• Experience or strong interest in learning Go and modern Perl for asynchronous programming.
• Empirical mindset with ability to design experiments and validate impact using metrics.
