About the Role
Moderna is seeking a Principal Data Platform Engineer to architect and lead implementation of large-scale cloud-native data platform components, including data lakes, SDKs, data catalogs, and access control layers. The role involves driving federated data ecosystems, integrating AI-assisted data management tools, and mentoring engineering teams. Based in Warsaw, this full-time, on-site position requires deep expertise in AWS, Python, Kubernetes, and modern data frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead implementation of large-scale platform components (Data Lakes, SDKs, Data Catalogs, Access Control).
- Drive cross-functional technical design sessions aligned with data mesh principles.
- Design and optimize data ingestion/transformation pipelines with focus on observability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
- Champion data discoverability via federated data catalog architecture and metadata standardization.
- Integrate AI-assisted data management tools for governance, lineage, and operational workflows.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers; promote DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code best practices.
- Collaborate with AI/ML, analytics, and governance teams on security and compliance.
Requirements
- 10+ years in data engineering, cloud architecture, or backend engineering roles.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS (Glue, Redshift, Lake Formation, IAM), Python, and modern data frameworks.
