Lucid Labs is hiring an AI Engineer to build production AI systems for German Mittelstand companies. You'll design and implement LLM-based solutions—from defining evaluation criteria to building human-in-the-loop interfaces—across 2-3 customer projects in parallel. The role is 80% building and 20% communication, with a focus on demonstrable results and production reliability. You'll work with Next.js/TypeScript, multiple LLM providers, and agentic workflows.
Responsibilities
Define and build evals that measure what 'good' means for each use case
Design and build AI systems: model/provider choice, prompts, structured outputs, tool calling, agent workflows, retrieval
Build guardrails, escalation paths, and monitoring
Build production interfaces in Next.js and TypeScript (review screens, approvals, human-in-the-loop)
Roll out solutions, keep them running, and improve them as AI advances
Communicate state and technical decisions in writing; occasionally demo results to customers
Requirements
3+ years of professional experience in delivery projects
Built an AI solution used by real users in production
Experience engineering production LLM systems (prompt design, structured outputs, tool calling, latency/cost trade-offs)
Eval-driven development with tools like Langfuse, Promptfoo, or Arize Phoenix
