Lightning AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Agents team, focusing on building the backend infrastructure for production-ready AI agent applications. The role involves designing scalable orchestration frameworks, workflow management systems, and developer-facing APIs that enable reliable tool execution and state handling. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, distributed systems that support long-running AI workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services for AI agent orchestration and execution
- Develop scalable APIs for tool use, workflow orchestration, memory, and state management
- Build reliable infrastructure for long-running, distributed AI workflows
- Partner with product and research teams to bring new agent capabilities into production
- Improve platform reliability, observability, and performance at scale
- Mentor engineers on system design and distributed systems best practices
Requirements
- Extensive experience building scalable backend systems using Go, Python, Rust, or similar languages
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and cloud-native architecture
- Experience designing and operating production services at scale
