Huawei's Edinburgh Research Centre is hiring Systems Research Engineers to build and optimize distributed AI infrastructure for large-scale model serving. You will architect scalable serving and scheduling systems across CPU, GPU, and NPU clusters, and tune high-throughput inference pipelines using frameworks like vLLM, Ray Serve, and PyTorch Distributed. The role blends systems research with industrial-scale engineering, with opportunities to publish at top venues such as OSDI, NSDI, MLSys, and NeurIPS.
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and evaluate distributed system components for AI and data-centric workloads
- Profile and tune large-scale inference and data pipelines, including KV cache management and heterogeneous memory scheduling
- Develop multi-tenant, low-latency, fault-tolerant model serving frameworks
- Prototype techniques for cache sharing, data locality, and resource orchestration in AI clusters
- Publish research at leading systems and ML venues and drive internal adoption
- Collaborate with global Huawei research teams and communicate technical insights
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems, operating systems, and machine learning systems architecture
