GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the Trusted Agentic Development team, focusing on validating software generated by AI agents. You will own the technical thesis for closing the validation gap between passing tests and working features, designing mid-loop feedback systems that help agents self-correct. This role requires deep experience building with AI agents across multiple languages like Rust, Ruby, and Go.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical thesis for validating agent-generated software and build early prototypes of feedback mechanisms.
- Design language-aware approaches for trusted development starting with Rust, Ruby, and Go.
- Develop mid-loop feedback systems that enable agents to self-correct toward working software.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to measure adoption, trust, and validation quality.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on experience building real software with artificial intelligence agents across multiple languages.
- Strong understanding of why agent output can pass tests yet fail in production.
- Ability to design systems rather than tune a single framework, with a focus on general vs. language-specific solutions.
- Experience prototyping to learn and shipping working code in an all-remote environment.
