Research Engineer (Materials Foundation Models)

CuspAI is hiring a Research Engineer to train and evaluate the foundation models behind its materials discovery platform. You will own a model end to end, from data curation and experiment design through large-scale training to integration. The role spans crystal structures, properties, text and images, with opportunities to lead on self-supervised representation learning, LLM fine-tuning and post-training, or evaluation suites. You will work closely with chemists and materials scientists to fold computational and experimental workflows into one optimisation loop.

• Train and evaluate foundation models for materials discovery, owning a model end to end.
• Curate data, design experiments, and run training at scale.
• Lead on self-supervised representation learning, LLM fine-tuning and post-training, or evaluation suites.
• Partner with chemists and materials scientists to integrate computational and experimental workflows.

• Hands-on experience training or evaluating large models in a distributed setting.
• Depth in at least one of: large-scale vision or representation learning, LLM pre-training or post-training, or reinforcement learning.
• Research background in CS, ML, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
• A substantial, scale-y project behind you rather than breadth.
