WHOOP seeks a Principal AI Researcher to lead foundation modeling for health and fitness wearables, integrating sensor data, language, and biomarkers into large-scale AI systems. The role involves setting architectural direction, driving research from thesis to production, and collaborating cross-functionally. Based in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities
- Set architectural direction for large-scale models spanning wearable sensor data, text, biomarkers, and behavioral signals. Identify and drive research bets in self-supervised and representation learning from thesis to production. Contribute to AI strategy and standards, partner across teams, raise technical bar, and represent WHOOP externally.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) or equivalent depth with extensive experience in large-scale ML and AI research. Track record of owning technical direction and architectural decisions. Deep expertise in modern deep learning (transformers, state space models), multimodal training, self-supervised/representation learning, RL-based post-training (PPO/DPO/GRPO), and large-scale distributed training. Excellent communication and influence skills. Publications at top-tier ML venues.
