Principal AI/ML Research Engineer

This Principal AI/ML Research Engineer role will drive applied AI research, novel model development, and algorithmic innovation across generative AI, deep learning, and traditional machine learning. The focus is on building Transformer-based Payment Foundation Models and transitioning experimental models into production. Key responsibilities include collaborating with Data Engineering, Product, Security, and Risk teams to solve large-scale commerce and fintech challenges.

• Design self-supervised pre-training and fine-tuning strategies for payment histories and user embeddings.
• Drive applied research in Transformer architectures and Tabular Transformers to build Payment Foundation Models.
• Lead research in fraud detection, risk scoring, predictive commerce, and automated decision-making.
• Prototype generative AI frameworks including LLM fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and multi-modal systems.
• Develop AI agent feedback, self-learning, and evaluation methodologies.
• Optimize models for performance, latency, and cost, including model routers.
• Transition proof-of-concept models to production with ML Engineering.

• Deep expertise in applied AI/ML research, statistical modeling, and experimental design.
• Strong background in deep learning, Transformers, LLMs, RAG, and generative AI.
• Experience with large-scale data, model optimization, and production deployment.
