About the Role
Lila is seeking a Research Scientist in AI Safety to build capability evaluations for scientific risks, develop safety strategies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role requires a PhD in biological or physical sciences and experience in scientific computing. This is a remote position open worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Design and build capability evaluations to test for scientific risks from cutting-edge scientific models integrated with automated physical labs.
- Coordinate and lead threat modelling exercises with internal and external scientific experts.
- Develop and curate high-quality training and test data for evals and safety systems.
- Evaluate risks from Lila’s capabilities, including interactions with the wider ecosystem of capabilities.
- Contribute to broader research efforts for scientific capability evaluation and restriction.
- Contribute to external communications on Lila’s safety efforts.
Requirements
- PhD in a biological sciences domain (e.g., molecular biology, virology, computational biology) or a physical sciences domain (e.g., materials sciences, physics, chemistry, chemical/nuclear engineering).
- Experience in scientific computing across biological or physical sciences.
- Familiarity with dual-use research and dissemination concerns and relevant safety/regulatory/governance frameworks.
