Machine Learning Engineer/Machine Learning Scientist , Multi Modality

Altos Labs is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer or Scientist to develop multimodal generative foundation models for multiscale biology. The role involves pre-training and fine-tuning large-scale models using biological data and natural language inputs. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to advance the discovery of interventions for aging and disease.

• Build, deploy, and optimize large-scale machine learning models.
• Pre-train and fine-tune multimodal foundation models using biological and natural language data.
• Develop efficient data loading and distributed training strategies.
• Apply software engineering to build scalable distributed systems in the cloud.
• Conduct research to design novel generative AI models and publish findings.

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience in academia or industry.
• Strong programming skills in Python with deep learning libraries (PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers).
• Experience with distributed training frameworks (DDP, FSDP, DeepSpeed, Megatron, Ray).
• Expertise in transformers, natural language processing, multimodal learning, or diffusion models.
• Track record of published AI/ML research (preferred for Scientist role).
